In this inspiring presentation, Ana Maria Méndez Vides, founder of ABA Guatemala, shares how compassionate, function-based interventions can be implemented in culturally responsive ways. As one of the first clinics in Guatemala to specialize in early intervention using the Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) model, ABA Guatemala is pioneering the use of Practical Functional Assessment (PFA) and Skill-Based Treatment (SBT) across linguistic and cultural contexts.
In this talk, Ana Maria explores how cultural values, family systems, and community traditions can inform compassionate intervention. She highlights strategies for adapting the PFA-SBT process while maintaining its core commitments to dignity, collaboration, and safety for children and caregivers. Presented in English, her training offers practical insight into what culturally informed practice can look like in real settings.
